BIOGRAPHY
Tito West is a writer, photographer and filmmaker whose work is shaped by a longstanding fascination with history, ritual and the natural world.
For nearly twenty years, Tito has traveled and worked throughout Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean, returning to places, people and stories that have come to shape his life and work. He spent several years living in Africa, where he has photographed expeditions and made documentary films for brands and NGOs. Since 2014, he has made extended trips through Brazil’s southern Amazon basin.
He was one of the principal cinematographers on Cowboys: A Documentary Portrait and produced and served as director of photography on Eden River, a narrative short inspired by Peter Matthiessen’s Far Tortuga.
His first book, Another Life, was printed in Italy and brings together photographs made over many years across Africa. He is now working on a second book and a narrative feature film, Mato Grosso, both drawn from a true story he has followed in Brazil for thirteen years.
