Biography
Tito West is an American artist and photographer whose work is shaped by a longstanding fascination with history, ritual and the natural world.
For nearly twenty years, West has traveled and worked throughout Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean, returning again and again to places, traditions and stories that have come to shape his life and work. His photographs move between animals, landscape and human experience, with an interest in memory and mythology. Working primarily with film, his work also takes form through books and physical works.
Books are central to West's work. His first book, Another Life, was printed in Italy and brings together photographs made over many years across Africa. He is currently working on his second book, drawn from a story he has followed for the past twelve years in Brazil's Mato Grosso.
